Tyler's research and writing focuses on the interrelationship of religion, science, and secularism in nineteenth century American literature. He approaches his writing and rhetoric course determined to help his students glimpse the rich possibilities that enhanced communicative power creates. His teaching focuses on helping students become confident readers of assorted media, capable of communicating effectively in written, oral, and visual platforms.
